Mortality and health problems in emu are mainly observed in chicks.  These include starvation, malnutrition, intestinal obstruction, leg abnormalities, coli infections and clostridial infections.  The main causes are improper brooding, nutrition, stress, improper handling and genetic disorders.  Other common diseases reported were rhintis, candidiasis, salmonella, aspergillosiss, coccidiosis, lice and ascarid infestations.  Ivermectin can be given at one month interval beginning at one month age to prevent external  and internal worms.

        In emu enteritis and Eastern Equine Encephalomyelities (EEE) were reported (Jefferey, 2001)  IN India outbreaks of Ranikhet disease were reported based on gross lesions but were not confirmed.  Howerver, the birds vaccinated for RD at the age of 1 (lasota), 4 (lasota booster) weeks; 8, 15 and 40 weeks by mukteswar strain gave better immunity.
