| HISTORY: He was developed from the old breeds of herding and farm dogs. First and last and for all times a working dog. The German shephered Dogs have been developed temperamentally and structurally through selective breeding and through snow judging, which, has been constructive in character. The German Shepherd Do impresses one with his reggedness combined with nobility, and power combined with agility. The development of the breed was sponsored by German Shepherd Dog Club which was founded in 1899 in Germany. They are a most popular as guide dogs for blind. DESCRIPTION : A good German Sherherd Dog creates an impression of a strong, agile well muscled dog, alert and full of life. He is a well balanced dog with the force-quarter and hindquarter in harmony. A trotting dog by selective breeding his structure has been modified to such excellence, so well-co-ordinated and harmonious is his gait, that he seems to glide forward without visible effort. The idea G.S.D. is stamped of masculinity or femininity in male and female. The male stands 61-66 cms(24-26 ins) and female 56-61 cms (22-24 ins) at withers. The G.S.D varies in colour, most colour, are permitted with strong colours preferred. Nose should be black. Washed-out colours and blues, livers or whites are serious faults. CHARACTER: German Shepherd Dog is highly intelligent dog, he is ideal for training for most jobs. He is gentle with children, loyal to his owner and excellent guard dog. SPACE & EXERCISE: He needs good amount of exercise. If the owner can exercise the Shephered regularly, it can live in a small house jor a flat. ATTENTION REQUIRED: The G.S.D. needs regular grooming. Apart from exercise and grooming they are fairly simple dogs to maintain. |
