| HISTORY: It is not clear where the Bloodhound originated but it is believed that it was brought to England in the 11th Century. The dignitaries of the Church in England took keen interest in the dog, so much care was taken in breeding, that it came to be called the "blooded hound" meaning aristocratic. The blood hound is a scent hound, who trails more for his own sport than anything else his task ends once he has followed the trial to its termination.
A Bloodhound can follow scents undetectable by other dogs as long as 12 hours after they were left.
DESCRIPTION: He is very powerful, well-set, smooth coated dog standing 58-6 cm (23-27ins) at withers. He is well known for his wrinkled loose skin on the head, droopy eyelids and loose jowl. His colours-black and tan, red and tan, and tawny.
CHARACTER: The Bloodhound have been described as the gentlemen of the dog world they enjoy the company of man hence can be kept anywhere, a house or flat if exercise is provided.
