| HISTORY : One of the sight Hounds, the Saluki is probably the oldest known breed of domestic dog. The earliest carvings show a dog having the Greyhound body with feathered ears, legs and tail. This hound appears on the Egyptian tombs of 2100 B.C.,and on the Sumerian Carvings of 7000-6000 B.C. It is on record that the pharoohs rode to the chase with thier hawks on thier wrists and Salukis on the leas. Saluki is the only dog which was allowed to sleep on the Carpet of the Sheikh's tent in Arabia. In Arabia he was used to bring down the gazzele, the fastest of Antelopes.
DESCRIPTION: Like the beauty of the thoroughbred horse, is Saliki's grace and symmetry of form; clean cut and graceful. His eyes have an expression of dignity mixed with gentleness. The Saluki has short, silky hair with ears, legs and tail feathered. Saluki comes in a wide range of colours, white cream, fawn, golden, red, grizzle, and tan, tri-colour and black and tan.
CHARACTER: Salukis being coursing and racing dogs, should be taken for long walks. They love human company and hate to be kenneled. They are not suitable for small houses.
