| HISTORY: The Fox Terrier was developed in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as a general stable dog by people fond of hunting. He was primarily used to get rid of rats and other rodents around the stabes, but he was also developed to to along the hunters to ferret out foxes, that buried themselves in rabbit holes etc. It was only in nineteenth century that the Smooth-haired and Wire-haired Fox terriers were classified as separate breeds.
DISCRIPTION: A part from the texture of the coat there is a little difference the smooth and the wire-haired Fox Terrier. The basic build is same. The Fox Terrier should be strong and gay. His head should be longish and lean, the eyes should be small and dark, full of pride. He has long legs and tail pointing straight up. He stands 36-39 cms. (14-15 1/2 ins) at withers. His colours are white with black markings or black and brown markings. In the wire-haired variety the more harder and most wiry the texture of the coat, the better.
CHARACTER: He is highly intelligent dog. He is a happy family dog. He makes excellent guard dog and is easy to house train.
SPACE & EXERCISE: The Fox Terrier needs small amount of exercise. He is happy in a small house or a flat.
ATTENTIION REQUIRED: A light brush once a day. |
