| HISTORY: The Labrador-Retriever is from New foundland and not from Labrador as the name implies when and how they came to Labrador is not known. The dogs were used to help the coastland fisherman haul their nets from the sea to the shore. The dogs would grab the corks and swim to the shore pulling the nets along. The weighing 55-75 tts (25-34kg). A wellset dog with deep chest and a short thick coat. They come in yellow, black and chocolate colour. The tail is of medium length very thick at the base gradually tapering towards the tip. The Labrador's tail is described as the " other " tail. It can be carried gaily but should not curl over the back.
CHARACTER: The Labrador is an excellent family dog of good character and is well disposed towards children. Easy to train and intelligent but does not like to be left alone for long periods.
SPACE AND EXERCISE: Being country dogs the Labradors need a lot of exercise, at least an hour's walk per day. The more Labradors work the better they seem to be. They can live in outside kennels that are drought free.
ATTENTION REQUIRED: A good brushing every day. |
